Narrative Magazine recently announced its poetry contest winners--1st, second, and third place. I really liked the poem that came in second by poet Anne Marie Rooney. The poem's called, "After It." The tone is authoritative, present, visceral. The piece commanded my attention. The images are beautiful while being kind of cryptic in a way--almost ominous. Whether autobiographical or not, reading this piece was a reminder of how language can bend and extend a moment by coming at it sideways.

(you'll have to create a log in to view the whole poem--but the first lines are visible)
