192) Buddhism and meditation

the literary life 1/10/10

Had a wonderful meditation at the local Buddhist center today. Apparently the 10th and 25th of each month are auspicious days, especially today. It was a calming experience, being there in the afternoon, with the beautiful altar to gaze at and the positive energy to soak in. The altar was lined with tiny lit candles, and a huge Buddha statue sat in the middle, in front of a window through which rays of light streamed in.

Here are some of my favorite quotes attributed to the Buddha:
"You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger."
"When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky."
"Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart give yourself to it."
"To conquer oneself is a greater task than conquering others."

I wish everyone a calm and auspicious day.
